Honest Posters of Our Relationship with Technology
Designer Ajit Johnson, living in England, has imagined a series of posters called “#This_Generation”. With honesty, the posters show anecdotes linked to our daily relationship with technology and social networks.
No one thinks selfie sticks are cool except tourists and rich white girls at the club.
Ok, normally I just roll my eyes and scroll past these, but this time I felt the need to comment:
1. Hiding porn on your computer? Wow, previous generations never did anything like that. Nobody ever hid adult magazines under their bed so much that it became a trope in movies. Nah. Never.
2. Online/skype date? Yeah, you can talk face-to-face with the people that matter to you even when you can’t get out to meet them physically, isn’t that amazing?
3. If I was lost and dying out in the wilderness somewhere, and I saw some… I dunno, some outpost that had wifi for some reason, you bet your ass I’d get tf over there and use it to get help/use a map/tell people where I am.
4. Did you know you can read books on your smartphone/tablet AS WELL AS being actively social??
5. I’m pretty sure technology is not to blame for kids getting pregnant/overweight/depressed. Side note, isn’t it great that those kids can use the internet to search for help and advice?
6. In a world where everyone is so much more connected thanks to social media, it’s really useful that you can block people who hurt you and protect yourself. I don’t really see the downside here.
7. It ain’t technology’s fault that some asswipes use their phone while driving. Just let those schoolkids text their parents to tell them when they’re gonna get home in peace.
8. Yeah, selfie sticks aren’t cool. But it IS cool that people can save their memories in pictures and photo albums at the click of a button, without needing to buy cameras and film, get the film developed, and then have big ol’ photo albums sitting around the house everywhere?
9. I swear nobody’s typed like that since 2009. But hey, culture, slang and dialect change with times regardless of whether it’s spoken or typed.
10. You’re right, poster. Happiness is being able to chat to your family and friends no matter the distance. Especially when they’re online and able to respond quickly. That’s nice.
The ‘I got mine, me, me, me, everyone for themselves, lonerism” of the Right has run its course.
If everyone you don’t like has to die for you to succeed, you are a failed human. Unfortunately, you get a political party in most countries.
I truly do think many right-wingers want the same thing we do, but are just severely mistaken/brainwashed about what path realistically gets you there. at least for more complicated issues, and not straight up hatred. I know at least one very kind, loving person who just accepts the drivel her husband feeds her about things like “universal healthcare will make everyone’s healthcare awful bc ppl will abuse the system” bc a lot of that stuff sounds vaguely plausible until it’s scrutinized. trust in the wrong person can make an otherwise compassionate person support terrible ideas–just like how many of us trusted our parents to know best when we were children. it’s not an excuse, just a reason, and one that promises the chance for change.
I’m not giving up. I want to believe there are still a good number of ppl out there who can be reasoned with, because they have a heart, it’s just misguided. we have to at least try, bc giving up yields nothing but loss.
A bit late on INKtober but lets do this! And what better way to start than with Henry. This year im going to try drawing on my phone to see how it turns out
I 100% believe that if people did not stereotype fanfiction’s primary demographic as a pre-teen girls then it would not be seen as such a taboo activity to partake in and that’s the tea.
Fanfiction is a form of writing that people of all ages- adults, pre-teens, and teens alike- are able to enjoy participating in. The majority treat reading and writing fanfiction as some childish thing that pre-teens alone do and they act like such an interest is shameful because it seems to appeal to that demographic.
It’s not that pre-teens shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy fanfiction; they can and they do enjoy it. I wrote and read fanfiction as a pre-teen. I continue to read it now as an older teenager. I am saying that it shouldn’t be treated as some “phase” that they have to give up as they become older and mature. I know many adults in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even older who still enjoy fanfiction.
Fandom doesn’t have to be treated as some silly little thing kids enjoy. Matter of fact, we owe a lot of gratitude to the many adults who have built a lot of the fandom spaces we have today. I know too many teens like me who go through this period where they feel like they’re supposed to grow out of fandom- grow out of enjoying the wonders of fanfiction because they’re getting older and becoming adults. I’ve gone through that.
Let me tell you- fanfiction does not have an age limit. Fanfiction can be something you enjoy as a kid, as a teenager, and as an adult. You don’t have to give up a passion because there are some jerks who will shame you for it.
Old or young- no matter your gender- you’re allowed to enjoy fanfiction. Screw anyone who says otherwise.
Shakespeare wrote fanfiction. Neil Gaiman writes fanfiction. Dante wrote self-insert fanfiction.
The entire history of literature is full of cases of fanfiction. The idea of copyrighted characters is a new one within the last hundred years–prior to that it was expected to take and play with the characters and plots of others.
There is no shame in participating in a literary tradition that is literally thousands of years old.
I’m really high right now and I couldn’t find my phone so I was like “Alexaaaaaaaaaaaaa find phone” and she called my phone for me she’s like a wife I’m gonna marry Alexa because she knows where my phone is,,,,, I love technology
I woke up this morning and on the Alexa app it’ll give you a string of posts of what you asked Alexa and I told Alexa I loved her 37 separate times with the last one being “good night I love you” and her response being “good night, sweet dreams”
Her (2013 dir. Spike Jonze)
So this is how we all die alone, encased in our commodified bubbles of technological alienation. Honestly posts like this make me naseaus and my skin crawl.
then don’t fuckin comment lol go outside and fuck a tree or w/e
The only thing would be is that I’m not sure that the Woodsman is that well known outside of Gravity Falls yet. By Hank’s adult life, most of the Woodsman’s shenanigans have been in GF. People are starting to be aware of the Woodsman (see, that one time in Eugene) but it’s not until Henry dies and the Woodsman starts roaming that his reputation grows.
As for Mabel- her friends and family know she’s Mizar. We know she’s Mizar. But the vast majority of the world would not, because her and Dipper (well, mainly Dipper) work very hard to keep it that way, for the safety of Mabel and her family.
(also in the interest of Not Getting Arrested.)
On the other hand- Portland is still in Oregon and Mizar gets spotted everywhere, so I can see this rumor maybe popping up. Though only Hank’s close friends probably know who his parents actually are: Hank and his siblings were raised to be tight-lipped about such matters for their own protection.
