Off

(Prompt:

Dipper and the Fallers; or, Dipper is a demon and everyone in town is cool with that even if outsiders don’t get that)

Gravity Falls had always been weird. After the Transcendence, the weirdness become much more apparent than before. However, this was no different in other towns, where the magical creatures of various origins became visible.

Gravity Falls was special because it was…

Off.

Perhaps it’s the way that the townspeople are already used to the supernatural. Or maybe it’s the strange rumors of a certain demon in their midst.

Despite the fact that Alcor seemed attached to the town, thought Kennedy, you’d think people would be less casual about it.

And that was why the newly formed Supernatural Investigation Squad was checking the town out.

First, Nadia talked to the Fallers. She had a knack for getting people to talk. The information received was weird though.

“The sweaty Pines kid? Seriously?”

“I’m not making this up! Every time I asked about Alcor they said stuff like that! The Pines family do seem to be close, though; Lazy Susan, she runs the local diner and I think she has the Sight, maybe? I’m pretty sure that she says hello to him when they come in.”

“He visits a diner? Regularly?”

“Yeah, especially with that Mabel girl.”

They sent Chuck in. Chuck had the Sight, a valuable skill for their line of work.

“It was surreal, man. Like I Saw freaking Alcor for Pete’s sake and he’s the real deal, let me tell you, but he acts like a person! A normal person!” Nadia stared at him a bit.

“Care to elaborate?” she finally replied.

Dipper Pines’s relationship with Gravity Falls post-Transcendence had, fortunately, not changed. Sure there was the whole ‘you’re an invisible demon now’ thing to get over but on the whole people treated him like he was normal.

With definite exception of Great-uncle Ford. But Dipper was pretty optimistic about that. Mabel made sure that they could talk things out even if he wasn’t corporeal. And even if board games weren’t really helping, talking about sci-fi television shows did.

Thank you, Used-To-Be-About-History Channel!

The interactions of the townspeople also helped. Lazy Susan always had a wink and a slice of pie for him. Sheriff Blubbs and Deputy Durland had fun ‘catching’ the ‘Great Demon Alcor’. Toby Determined was respectful about the whole demon thing and just asked about harmless topics (though when he started talking about courting a certain lady reporter he’d let Mabel take over, praising the fact his omniscience told him nothing about that future). Even Bud Gleeful said hello in his general direction!

The disbanding of the Society of the Blind Eye was really helping Bud’s mental health. Dipper was sort of glad; Bud was a pretty nice guy even if he had enabled Gideon to pull off a lot of bad things. Like the election incident.

At this point Dipper was lost in thought, remembering how things haven’t changed and how they had.

The stalkers were definitely new.

Oh yes, he’d seen them, noticed them tailing him and his family. He knew one had the Sight, that another was great at getting people to talk.
