Mod Z, what does it feel like to see a bunch of Gravity Falls AU’s blogs pop up everywhere now? Since TAU is so successful?

Mod Z here! I’ve kinda let this ask sit for a while because I was never quite sure what sort of tone this question had.

I think it’s wonderful! But I also don’t think that I’m the sole reason AU blogs have popped up, either. There have always been group blogs of sorts, perhaps just not in the Gravity Falls fandom at the time I started TAU. But that’s not saying a whole lot, as it was still a comparatively pretty new fandom base.

I honestly wish every AU had its own blog! It makes things so much easier to understand, to look into, to immerse yourself. There have been some more obscure AU’s floating around (in multiple fandoms) that I had been interested in learning more about, but I couldn’t always find a clear explanation and/or the originator of the AU. So it was kind of left at a dead end.

In the end, I suppose if someone made a blog of their AU using TAU as inspiration, I’m very flattered! But either way, I’m more just happy to see people finding new ways to enjoy AUs and fandoms.

(Pardon the intrusion, but I’m going to post this in the GF tag as well, in hopes that it encourages others to make their own blogs for their AUs! I think it’s awesome and amazingly fun and would love to see more of them!)

Is there any possibility of a town being alive? Not in the way of having a physical representation but alive in the sense of having a soul and a place in the reincarnation cycle. Imagine gravity falls having a soul, imagine it reincarnating down the line, a starship, a city, an island. Different places different names but same old atmosphere of acceptance and camaraderie. Imagine its citizens finding their way back to this place, imagine them finding their way back home.

FUCK YES THERE IS!

the general term for this is ‘genius loci”. We’ve played with this a bit under this tag and this one.

Normally with an old town the usual thing happens; the kids in town grow up, they move out, the elders stay and this causes the town to slowly dwindle in numbers until it’s a village, or worse, just a single farm and the town is gone. Gravity Falls however somehow never runs out of new children who love the place and end up staying there and make their own family’s. Some suspect the supernatural to be the cause of this. The kids know it’s more demonic in nature but never tell.

I’m cry now

The Festival of the Birthday Candles

I believe it was said somewhere that everyone celebrates Mabel and Dipper’s birthday like a party or festival or that someone threw them a huge birthday party.  Building off that, their birthday becomes a big family celebration.  After the triplets go to college, it’s the one time when they can come together for a big dinner like they had as kids.  After Mabel dies, they still get together and have a feast that day.  When they pass away, the next generation of niblets carry on the tradition.  It eventually becomes a holiday celebrated by everyone on the Pines family tree.  Cassie, Mabel reincarnations, and others that were treated kindly by Alcor also celebrate.  Though most people celebrate it at home, many families take a road trip to Gravity Falls and the local Pines families decorate their homes and treat it like a festival. Some stores (at least in Gravity Falls) have special deals on foods, the Greasy Diner gives everyone free birthday cake, and Candy and Grenda’s businesses may give discounts on products that Dipper and Mabel would buy.  People wear pointed party hats with a shooting star, pine tree, or self-decorated design.  In addition, everyone sacrifices a portion of their food to summon Dipper at the Mystery Shack/Library and give him enough power stay (corporeal) in Gravity Falls without being interrupted by other summons for the entire day.

hc: there’s a legend passed down from cemetery caretaker to the next caretaker about the grave of mabel pines, about the haunting violin that plays there, the young man’s voice that sings stuff like “what a wonderful world”, and the big, neon flowers that last through the winter. the legend follows that the pine tree surrounding the grave is a spirit, and the ghost of her twin that followed her in life followed her in death. ppl in gf treat that tree like a child, and it grew big and strong.

This is beautiful and I’m going to cry a million tears now kthxbai

ooohh, but what if Gravity Falls is just a bit more magical than your average post-Transcendence town? After all, the town had centuries to ‘absorb’ the ever-present magic, and both ‘worlds’ were always a bit closer than anywhere else, without counting that it was THE epicenter of the Transcendence. So maybe it got a bit more ‘charged’ than the normal everyday town? Just little things, like semi-sentient houses made with forest wood, people instinctively having a bit of a knack for magic, etc.
