-Ian goes to a therapist. Things go well, but then he decides to let them meet his girlfriend and her brother.
-A super-fan finds Ian and demands to meet Bael, who they are convinced is real. They meet a demon, but not the one they wanted.
-Mira and Dipper haven’t come back from their cult raid, and Ian finds himself trying to find his girlfriend and Dipper in the dark night fraught with danger.
-Rosa and Mira get into mischief in a night on the town. Danger knocks.
-Sun-Mi summons Dipper for information, and, out of insatiable curiosity. Dipper finds this a bit awkward.
-Dipper watches Ian’s dreams a little too closely and gets more than he bargained for. Ian is pissed to say the least.
Reincarnation Blues (95,096 words, published April 2, 2015, completed September 26, 2015)
This fic was the product of an idea that absolutely would not leave me alone. I’ve mentioned before that originally Rosa was the centre of the piece, with Ian as a supporting player and partner in crime in her bid to take over the world by being adorable and popular. Rosa Darling, Taylor Swift’s Evil Twin, crawled fully-formed out of the first time I heard Delta Rae’s ‘I Will Never Die’, at least two months before I ever wrote a word of Reincarnation Blues.
Thank you! I made kind of an aesthetic board as a cover for the playlist I made for her, here. Her style is meant to be something of a clash between cutesy retro chic and punk. Think gothabilly, pastel pinup dresses, combat boots, denim vests and jackets covered in patches and buttons and studs, ripped fishnets, red lipstick, and always, always, a tall blonde fauxhawk.
8. How does your OC keep track of time? Do they have a planner? A calendar?
Ian has a work calendar with the show deadlines carefully plotted out and all the milestones they have to hit to make each deadline. Ostensibly it syncs with his personal calendar. In real life, he has used his personal calendar exactly twice – once to enter Mira’s birthday into it, once to enter their anniversary into it. He never looks at clocks and can frequently be found cursing about being late for things or moaning that he accidentally stayed up until four in the morning.
Mira has a pink planner with the year written in gold-embossed script font on the cover and lacy or patterned stickers for every conceivable occasion. The whole thing is colour-coded by month and occasion and gets used, very earnestly, for the first three months of every year (sometimes four, if she’s feeling particularly committed). She usually wears at least three different pieces of jewelry that tell time, however.
14. If your OC owned a Tumblr blog, what kind of content would they post?
Ian’s has a default theme and icon with no about or summary. It is 75% reblogs of pictures of animals in places they shouldn’t be with no context provided, memes about the Illuminati, and ridiculous mashups, 20% Just Animation Industry Things, and 5% 3am existential musing shitposts.
Mira’s has a teeny-tiny anime theme in lavender and white, with a little animated Mizar sprite above her summary, which is mostly kpop and kdrama, Bollywood, kawaii fashion, and Just Relatable Writing Things, with a lot of yelling about her books and her characters and flipping out whenever someone does fanart of them.
19. Does your OC like to collect things? What kind of things do they collect?
Mira collects just about anything pastel and frilly, the more ordinary the better. She has, among other things, a pink and white toaster that toasts Hello Kitty faces onto any bread you put in it and a lavender and lace toilet brush cover.
Just had this cute little headcanon that at some point Ian and Mira colab on a children’s storybook. They plan the story together and then Mira does the writing and Ian does the art.
It’s a moderate success, by no means an instant classic but successful enough to help Mira expand her audience she can write books for if she so chooses to.
Okay, well, first what you need to do is invest in a whole pallet of those 72-hour energy drinks, you know the ones, you can only get them at those little mom-and-pop gas stations and pharmacies, they come in a bottle about an inch high with a
tacky holographic silver label and they taste like you’re licking the abstract concept of eternity? Then you’ll need about twelve ounces of fine-ground coffee, a home distillery or a good chemistry set with a Bunsen burner, and a pack of pixie stix. Not the new fake ones, the ones they made illegal after they found out what prolonged pixie dust exposure does to kids. Then you’re going to want to –
I mean, you’re going to want to not share your girlfriend’s secret recipes on the internet. You are definitely not going to want to do that holy shit I have made a terrible mistake.
m: Yes. Yes you have.
Anyway! When I look up and the clock is blinking a number in the single digits and I’m pretty sure the last time I looked up it was light out, I turn everything off. Right away. Before I can think ‘wow it’s kind of late, where did the time go?’ I shut the tablet down and plug in my phone. On the other side of the room. If I don’t do this, I’ll still be awake refreshing the same two websites when the sun comes up.
Usually powering everything down makes me realise how tired I am, and it’s easy to get to sleep. But if I can’t for some reason, or if I wake up after a nightmare, I usually go to warm milk with lavender! Hot cocoa’s also good with lavender. I’ve heard warm baths are also great for putting people to sleep – just don’t fall asleep while you’re still in the bath.
And if all else absolutely fails, you can always distract yourself until it’s time to wake up by singing that song your boyfriend hates! Over and over and over again. That’s what he gets for telling everybody and their cat how to make Mira Fuel.
I actually wrote two full versions of the final scene (the one that takes place in Ian’s mind), but getting Mira and Dipper down into the facility was actually the hardest part. I may have mentioned once or twice before that fight scenes are the bane of my existence?
