I’m guessing this Ruby was born in either May or June. Why? Because she’s a GEM IN EYE!
And a lot of us on the crew are not straight and are not white, and these topics don’t seem like adult topics to us, because they were part of our experience growing up. The more I work on this show, the more incredible it seems to me that these topics are not usually discussed in media for kids. Kids not only get it, many of them are experiencing it themselves, sometimes with no context to tell them their experience makes sense, and almost always without a fun sci-fi fantasy take on that experience featuring wacky cartoon aliens. I’d really like to rectify that.

Steven Universe: so in this episode Steven travels to the center of the world to confront the terrifying monstrosity that’s been threatening to destroy the world for this entire arc now. He doesn’t have to kill it though. He has the power to communicate with it! And he helps it to bubble itself, because these were the gems who fought for Rose Quartz, who gave their existence to protect earth, and now they want to protect it once more. Steven was able to see that in them. What did you guys think?

Intersectional feminism is something I really care about. To me, the
show is specifically about intersectional feminism. The characters are
very, very different from each other. What they’re struggling with is
very different; they will hurt each other’s feelings by accident, wires
will get crossed, and things will get confusing. It’s a challenge for
them, as characters, to coexist, but they care about each other so much
that they work through it. That’s just something I think about often and
try and convey.
