Its 2:12 am and ive got a burning question. why do huamns reincarnate into humans. imagine a Mizar reincarnating in an alien on a distant planet, living under another sun.

Souls do their best to continue down the path of least resistance, to continue doing what it knows. Meaning, they almost always reincarnate into the same species, around other Souls they’re familiar with.

This isn’t a steadfast rule (Mizar is a cat once, Toby is from demon lineage), but it’s extremely rare to see this being deviated from.

One thing that does not happen though, is Souls hopping worlds. They can’t cross dimensions, and they don’t cross an enormous amount of space between viable hosts. This includes mental space – meaning they couldn’t hop between two habitable planets right next to each other, if both worlds aren’t aware of one another. But they could cross the entire galaxy, a hundred thousand light-years wide, if two far-off societies knew of each other’s existence.

So, Souls on earth won’t be able to reincarnate onto other planets, into sentient life, until a decent portion of life on earth knows of another world with similarly sentient life.

Headcanon that the reason that California wasn’t so much worse as it realistically would be is either
a) because far future Alcor intervened on his own and negated most of the long term consequences, leaving the considerable damage that he did for reasons of his own or
b) again in the far future, a team of demonologists who were trying to understand why California didn’t have any long lasting consequences and eventually figure out that they need to summon Alcor to make a deal to negate the long term consequences and they have to leave California destroyed so that they’ll know to make the deal in the first place.

And if anyone wants to write something exploring one of these ideas in detail I would love to see it.

In Which Necromancy Anon is Half Asleep

Hello! Necromancy Anon here, with more undead delights!

Building off of the separation of soul and body, at some point someone’s going to figure out a way to control a dead body’s motion via electronic signals to muscles and tendons. While I’m not sure of the science, you could theoretically implant electronic signal broadcasters across all major joints and support muscles, allowing some resemblance to movement.

A major point in this is that the major muscles have to be somewhat connected. If the leg muscles have been removed or deteriorated, it won’t do anything at all. Another possible problem for these people is controlling the movement. Maybe video game controllers?

Of course, someone else is going to find a way to do the same, but probably using magic to create connections. At some point, this would either lead to a very impressive movie stunts, or would lead to a new military monstrosity.

Just imagine a cult getting their hands on this type of technology….

I no joke think that demon summoning is enforced in the U.S. how prohibition was enforced in the 20s. It’s illegal, sure, but a bunch of people do the thing anyway. Side note: Would demon summoning interfere with freedom of religion? I can see someone taking that to the supreme court for some reason.

Speakeasy Cultist Culture.

that sounds really interesting to explore, actually.

As for the side note: oh man, once you get people banding together and creating religions that involve summoning rituals in some manner, there could be so many clashes in that arena. There’d probably be huge debates: at what point can something officially be declared a religion? How far does religious freedom actually go? Is it possible for these kinds of religious rites to be observed in the same way as minor summonings are performed for scientific or academic purposes – perhaps with special dispensation and assuming all safeties are being observed – and how do you decide which groups get that dispensation?

Are there periods – far in the future perhaps – where either the US and/or other countries that may have attempted this try to get rid of the Summoning Prohibition, on the basis that it’s not working that well and is a waste of money and if people want to summon demons and risk themselves then that’s their own business? Age restrictions, summoning licenses, valid ID being required at any reputable shop that sells books or equipment to those ends? Basically, how might the legality of this all shift back and forth over the centuries, and under what social pressures?

There’s a whole socio-cultural box of things to unpack here in worldbuilding or in fics. We’ve got scattered pieces, like the Circle of the Dreamer’s Star being sort of a religion, albeit occasionally one that has to go underground due to current laws or outlooks, and academic summoning being an allowed thing for demonology studies and magical-scientific testing, and the general idea that not all countries are going to treat summoning the same way legally or culturally.

So I’ve been rereading Hank and his Supernatural Mafia stuff, and I just thought that it was so ripe with potential idioms. Like “feeding gnomes” as something that only seems simple, but can spin out of control, or “ring-bat” as a weapon that takes the shape of something harmless, “dinner” suddenly not referring to a meal, but an organizational meeting. Stuff like that. What sayings have the mods headcannoned as coming from the after effects of transcendence?

These are so good!

I’m not sure we mods have an actual list of sayings, though the writers in our ranks have occasionally gotten a bit creative with changes in slang or idioms. Demon-related swearing seems to be in vogue now and again. It’d be great to see more suggestions made and turns of phrases used in other fics.

On the subject of where all the supernatural stuff came from, I’ve always assumed that it was there the whole time, but humans never noticed it because of some sort of magic veil. That would explain Gravity Falls’ weirdness because it’s just a place where the veil is weak. It would also explain every like Lucy Ann, who seem to have been around for a while, and why so many creatures are so similar to existing myths and legends. What do you guys think?

This is also an interesting take on it, and may account for some of the mentioned supernatural stuff at least, running alongside the TAU canon “sprang into being” model.

We can definitely have both, yes?

Prompt I want to see the dreams that are under alcor’ s care change the angels’ opinion on him by staying by his side even if they have to die in his place.

Er, I’m sorry, but angels wouldn’t come to like any demon because of something like that!

Angels are just as selfish as demons, using humans to gain power. They don’t like humans, though they don’t really hate them either – they’re usually seen as inferior lifeforms to be exploited.

The only reason angels have a better reputation is thanks to previous mythology (false stories about how they’re gentle and loving), and the fact that their exploitation methods are generally not as brutal to humans as demon methods. Angels tend to try and sell themselves as benevolent creatures in order to gain more worship (how they gain power), which can lead to messy brainwashing and emotional/mental abuse… but that’s way less conspicuous than the demon who straight up rips people apart and eats their souls.

So angels aren’t morally superior, thus they wouldn’t care if Alcor homed dreams instead of nightmares. They’d probably react the same as other demons honestly – they’d think he’s weird and dangerous.

And let’s not forget that angels and demons are enemies! They fight over the same “food source” (humans), so they’re at odds with each other. The faith and positivity angels can instill in humans as a by-product of their worship mongering is toxic to demons; likewise, demons encourage and feed off of negative emotions that make things like faith/worship hard to do.

(Sorry, I don’t mean to shoot down your prompt, just wanted to clear up the misunderstanding!)

Would they have to make a harmful magic hazard sign? Any idea what it would look like? Would they have to make a demonic energy hazard sign for like labs and stuff? I can’t imagine ambient demonic energy/magic is good for humans…

They would absolutely make a hazard sign for magic! What it would look like Mod S isn’t sure (Mod S cannot design her way out of a paper bag) but that makes complete sense for a world that quickly realizes that magic can be dangerous as well as useful.
