were linked. They always had been; they always would be. They were the opposing
limits of a pendulum’s swing, scales dancing between unequal weights, a coin
spinning eternally heads over tails and around again, a doubled ouroboros –
each eternally doomed to destroy the other, and be destroyed in turn.
