So, I’ve been scrolling through some old pages and I stumbled on two pieces of that fox familiar. One was a fanfic where he was called Vulpes and another was a fanart where he is called Anser. So which one is it or are they two different foxes? How did he even get the fox familiar? I mean the sheep are quite obvious and they have a sort of established canon. But the fox? I have no clue where he came from.

The fox was originally created by 1apple-fox1 and charliessketchesandshit (and possibly some others?). He had no canon name for a while; 1apple-fox1’s version was called Mitz, short for Mischief, while charliessketchesandshit’s version had no name. The name ‘Anser’, iirc, came from an ask to the blog, and caught on. ‘Vulpes’ was one of the names that got used before that.

The fox came out of the idea that Alcor might make friends with other supernatural creatures/spirits, and someone raised the idea of fox spirits as they appear in Japanese mythology. Someone else suggested that the fox might be a ghost, and things spiralled from there.

HC about Wendy and Anser (Alcor’s fox familiar)

So allow me to casually take a seat in the corner while I write this since i’m probably heading there anyway.

So, I don’t think the origins of Anser was really officialized?? I mean, I don’t remember an actual “This is where Anser comes from” thing so this is my idea for it (if there has been a thing I appologize cause I haven’t seen it and tis can be disregarded) and i thought I would share. How does this tie in to Wendy? Well allow me to cackle a little and tell you my thoughts.

Wendy, as I belive was stated a few times, dissapeared at one point in time, and only Dipper knows what happened to her, but he refuses to tell anyone about it. I’ve read a few fic’s where she died and he couldn’t save her, but what if….

What if Dipper, in one of his fits of rage, is the actual reason Wendy is dead. Dipper, having lost control of his Demon Side, kills her. And only afterwards does he realize what he’s done and he’s devistated and that’s why he doesn’t tell anyone.

Wendy, however, as a ghost/spirit/whatever, visits him while he’s mourning and refusing to go home, you know, in that state where “I can’t face anyone what am I supposed to do” thing he gets sometimes that last’s for weeks. And she’s all “Dude, I forgive you, it’s cool, you weren’t yourself.”

And they have this long chat that eventually leads to a deal. Wendy, during her time between reincarnations, accompanies Dipper as his familiar. Anser, the fox. However when her time comes to go be reborn she leaves him again. She acts as a small anchor to keep Dipper grounded as a reminder of what he can (and has) done. So when Mabel isn’t there, he still has that small reminder.

Bittersweet, but sad none the less.

*bows and walks deeper into the corner* (I also may or may not be planing on writing this as a fic, *cackles*)

It was lucky for Dipper that you didn’t have to be a dog to be loyal, as well as the fact Anser had more than a few tricks up his sleeve that he’d picked up along the way. (x)

more Transcendence au feels. Is…is the fox named Anser? Is that right? I..do not know the entire detailed story behind this. But short version maybe: Attack sends out of power Dipper to the fucking North Pole or some shit, or maybe someone tries to freeze him. (I always imagine most demons, even dream ones, NOT liking ice/cold. I mean look at Hell.) And Anser is a ghost fox but he’s not so normal ghost fox anymore—and his loyalty to Dipper runs bone deep.
