Driftwood chapter 4

steampunk-magicalgirl:

Alright here we go again! This is actually one of the first ideas that I had that led me to write this fic, so I’m really excited for this chapter to finally be finished so I can share it with everyone. Enjoy!

Also, shout out the person in my class who, when asked to name a random object, suggested a spoon! Thanks friend.

Drift AU part 3.

okay so, I know that when I started writing this I said that it was going to be a series of oneshots, but I´ve realized now that writing it as a continous story would work much better, so from now on that´s what I´m doing, just a heads up. You can find the other parts to this story on my AO3 or on my blog tagged as drift!au

Also, major trigger warning for a somewhat grapic suicide attempt in Dipper´s part. So skip that if that stuff bothers you.

Beginning

steampunk-magicalgirl:

Alright guys, It´s time for another fanfic. Or rather, it´s time for the beginning of a fanfic, since this is just the first of a (hopefully) long series of oneshots which are all going to be set in the Drift!au (an au of transcendence au, although you don´t need to be familiar with that to understand this one). I can´t promise when the next oneshot will be out, or if it´s even gonna be the next thing I write! While waiting though, please enjoy this origin story! Also, warning for major character death, spoilers, and overall angst, this is not a happy fic.

Nobody’s talked about the Drift AU in awhile, and I miss it a lot. Any particular reason?

We talk about what is sent to us, generally (though sometimes things get buried when we don’t have a response in mind yet and put it off waiting for a flash of inspiration to strike…). For a while recently, it was panic over the idea of Al-V dying. A little more recently we saw a bit of Gompers, as well as some Transdimensional Arc AU.

So if you’d like to talk about Drift AU, bring a thought about it up in an ask and see if that gets the ball rolling. Topics on this blog are as much up to you guys as they are up to the mods – we regulate and respond, and you generate the content in the first place. 🙂

Is it just me or Count of Monty Cristo’s “Every day a Little Death” and “I know those eyes/That man is dead” sound very Drift au! ish. In case one, the dialogue is very heavy to losing oneself to loneliness and anger, and case 2 is person A seeing someone they missed again(they can’t belive it) but person B has let go of the chance long ago.

This is entirely possible – the mods never intended any Count of Monty Cristo meta, but the themes present in any concept or story created now are hardly going to be unique or totally new to humanity in any case.

So, if you want to analyze the thematic elements of TAU and compare/contrast these to various classics of literature, knock yourself out! The opportunities for it are bound to be out there somewhere.

I was thinking about Drift AU, and started wondering if maybe, once Alcor’s reputation starts to grow and he starts getting linked to the Transcendence, Mabel and the others begin to suspect/believe Alcor was the cause of Dipper’s death (as well as, or instead of, Bill).

On one hand, good thought and excellent point.

On the other hand you have somehow brought even more pain into Drift AU so I’m going to have to ask you to sit in the pear wiggler.

Bad End Drift AU – the Offer Accepted

Mod O (I think) was talking about how her fic the Offer Accepted would play out in the Drift AU and I loved the idea of Alcor and Mizar ruling as demon father and daughter! So I couldn’t help but draw it!

I really like how her dress came out looking. My sister suggested a galaxy pattern and I actually went and bought water colors for this! 😆

The sketch was really bad though… 😕 meh whatever

What would happen if in your fic “The Offer accepted” was set in the Drift au ?

oreramar:

In Good End Drift, I’m not sure how much would change. In that fic, Dipper realizes that without a Mizar to serve as an anchor and a gauge of humanity, it’s up to him to remember how to be at least a moderately decent person and teach her the same (not that it works, of course). Good End Drift Dipper would possibly be more prepared for this task – he’s had a lot more practice at it and hasn’t come to rely so entirely on a few good people to keep himself in check – but it probably wouldn’t make too much of a difference.

Bad End Drift, on the other hand, would likely result in a rather terrible universe. This Alcor hasn’t tried to keep his humanity and so he wouldn’t be trying to control his daughter’s actions for the sake of ‘good,’ but he probably would also have a skewed vision of family. He wouldn’t try to keep Mizar with him out of grief and love alone, but also (and, by this time, perhaps even mostly) out of a need for power and simply because she is his. This would not be a good relationship. Mizar would either be under his very, very powerful thumb for eternity, a lesser demon in the command of a greater, or, if she rebelled despite his vast advantages over her (not least his command of her soul), she could be killed by him in this ‘verse as well. The former is likelier, though. This Alcor would give a demon Mizar no reason to think he is weak enough to cross, and even if she did get cocky he’d probably have no qualms about using her soul directly against her and knocking her down several pegs at the same time without releasing her through death. And both of them together could probably take over and rule the universe as father and daughter, even without any real interpersonal harmony between the two of them.

So, The Offer Accepted AU + Bad End Drift AU = definitely not good.
