Drift AU Ficlet/HC

So basically a variation on the Drift AU, where Dipper cannot contact Mabel, despite how hard he tries. Instead he ends up following his sister around like an usually powerful ghost. With Mabel unable to see, hear, or otherwise sense him.

He is there is observe Mabel and Henry’s awkward courtship (Henry had the strangest nightmares for weeks after meeting Mabel) and he’s there to see the Triplets being born.

While Mabel can’t see him, the Triplets can. It is one of the most profound experiences for Dipper when the triplets look his way and see him, and again when he holds out a finger and they reach up to grasp it. He then pronounces their true names and gives them each his mark. Mabel and Henry see nothing.

The triplets then grow up with an guardian demon/invisible uncle looking out for them. Mabel for her part is sort of relieved that her bedtime stories about her brother have made an impact on her children, especially when they start having an invisible friend they name Uncle Dipper.

Then one day, the Triplets get snatched by a cult looking for a sacrifice. Mabel grabs her bat and charges off after them.

The cultists for their part, realize they are in serious shit when the mid-level demon they summoned gets devoured before their eyes as an absolutely livid Alcor the Dreambender forces his way through their summoning circle. (You DARE!)

Mabel breaks down the door just in time to see a demon that looks almost exactly like her long dead brother, whom her children call “Uncle Dipper”

Strange things tended to happen in Gravity Falls, but Henry
loved the town all the more for it. He’d come to Gravity Falls expecting weird,
after all, and that weirdness had led him to Mabel, the love of his life and
now his wife, which more than made up for the gnomes occasionally rooting
through the trash or the way town water turned glittery on Thursdays.

Of course, he’d never been expecting the town to get this
weird.

Hi, what’s the drift au?

The Drift AU is an au of TAU where no one can see Dipper upon his transcendence into demonhood, not even Mabel. As you can guess, it’s quite painful. There are two variants–good end, where he tries even harder to cling to his humanity, and bad end, where he discards it entirely. More information in its origin post, here.

Dipper Pines was twelve years old when he stopped being
human.

He was twelve years old when the demon Bill Cipher tried to
fuse the Mindscape with the physical world, twelve years old when the two of
them got locked into an intense battle waged in Dipper’s mind and body, twelve
years old when he defeated the demon.

Twelve years old when he became one himself.

In reference to the other anon who asked about Alcor possessing people other than Mabel, what about in Drift AU? Spending longer on his own, maybe he possessed a more people to make effects on the world?

At the very least, Dipper would have possessed a lot more unwilling people in the beginning – both in the “good end” and “bad end” route. Though the “good end” Dipper would be far more wary of doing unspeakable acts against the innocent, he would still be desperate and willing to do just about anything to return to his family, to protect them, and ease their grief.

Once he regains enough energy to be visible to his family even for short periods of time however, “good end” Dipper would be wholly averse to possession and only use it in the most dire of situations – whereas his canon counterpart would be a lot more comfortable with it (and “bad end” Dipper would outright enjoy it).

Basically, Drift AU tends to give you pretty consistent opposing results. Compared to his canon TAU self, one is far more timid and self-conscious of his demonic traits, while the other is a lot more like Bill in that he doesn’t let a decent amount of sadism from stopping anything he deems entertaining.

6. To Become: Eyes

“Coming, Mom!” Mabel answered the call in her usual manner –
by screaming through the floor boards.

It was the first thing Alcor processed when he blipped into
her room, stomach full on temporal and gravitational magic. Like a galaxy
swirling inside him. Because he no longer had organs to process his meals. The
acquired energy melded with his own and waited. Waited to be used.

And it wouldn’t wait long now.

Mabel minimized the window on her laptop, but left it open
as she rose from her desk and crossed the room to her door. Her gaze swept the
room, lingering on her closet and the lockbox she kept under her bed. Dipper
knew that she was double checking to make sure they were closed and hidden.

She had been doing that a lot lately.

By some instinct, Mabel met his eyes. He knew that she
couldn’t see him – not yet – but that didn’t change the fact that she seemed to
have some sense of where he was. What could it mean?
