Part One / Part Two / Part Three / Part Four / Part Five / Part Six / Part Seven / Part Eight / ?
So I have to apologise for the unannounced, unexpected month-and-a-half hiatus. I found out by trial and error (mostly error) that I can’t consistently update two longfics while also consistently working on a novel. I’m going to finish this and Imbalance, but after that, I’m planning to take a step back from fic to focus more on my original fiction. I hope you’ll check out @katesummervsthemultiverse if you’re interested in what I’ve been getting up to!

The first thing that caught the eye, entering Gravity Falls, were the cliffs.
It had been true in 2012 and it was true now, a little over a thousand years later. The valley in which the town nestled sloped gently downwards, only to abruptly terminate in a towering wall of rock. The cliffs loomed over the valley like enormous sentinels, keeping watch over everything that lay before them. One of the huge outcroppings of bare stone that hung over the valley had lost its top, a chunk of rock almost the size of the town itself sliding off and crashing into the base of the opposite cliff, but the distinctive UFO shape could still be made out, if you knew what you were looking for.
Gravity Falls had changed too much, and not at all.

What if Gideon turned on his allies in The Scouring in exchange for being turned into a demon?
He would quickly become very disappointed.

When Ian woke up, the other side of the bed was empty.
The covers were all rumpled and pushed down to the foot of the bed, the blue light on the coffeemaker was on, and the window was forced wider than it had been last night, wide enough to blow the curtains out into the room like a couple of very ugly snot-green-damask ghosts. Somehow, it was still unbearably hot in the room.
Ian patted the mattress beside him, but it was only about as warm as the rest of the room. He couldn’t tell how long Mira must have been up before he was.

“This is gonna cost you more than just one bag of candy-coated chocolate-covered peanuts, you know.”
“Mmhm,” Mira agreed, barely listening. She’d lived in the Pacific Northwest her whole life, only a few hundred miles from the place where she was standing. Heck, she remembered family vacations in the Redwood National Forest, in the eerie underwater hush of a forest as old as the world. But somehow, nothing had prepared her for Gravity Falls.

Mira picked the phone up on the fourth ring, plugging it into the wall port to bring the call up on the TV’s screen and toggling the camera to ‘off’. She was in no state to be seen by anyone, especially not the photo-perfect Rosa Darling, who had probably never gotten a giant stress zit on her chin in her life.
I was planning to finish at least the first part of a Transcendence AU fic I’ve been working on before NaNoWriMo started, just to mark the anniversary even if there’s not an official ficathon this year. Unfortunately…yeeeeah, that didn’t want to happen, apparently. Still, I wanted to have something for the anniversary, so here’s a short preview of said fic, which is inspired largely by this post. Sorry to leave it where I did, with any luck I’ll be able to motivate myself to finish it after November.
The doorbell rang around half past noon. Marking his place in the book he’d been
rereading, Henry got up from his armchair and walked leisurely to the front door. The Library was closed for the week, so he assumed it was
someone from town. The Ramirezes back early
from their vacation, perhaps, or Candy stopping by to say hello, or the
Blubs-Durland kid who’d lately taken to hanging around the place to chatter
with Mabel. Henry wasn’t a social
butterfly by any means, but he’d been calling Gravity Falls home for long
enough and got along well enough with most of the locals that he felt
reasonably comfortable handling an unexpected social call. There wasn’t any reason in Henry’s mind (in hindsight, he
would marvel at how naïve he could sometimes be) to be expecting anything out
of the ordinary – well, out of the ordinary for Gravity Falls, at least. He opened the door, already looking down out of habit – the
odds of encountering anyone at his eye level were generally low ––and was immediately half-blinded by the sun reflecting off a
mass of almost supernaturally-shiny platinum blond hair.“Well, well, as I live and breathe! Henry Pines!” a high-pitched, folksy voice
exclaimed from down around Henry’s chest level.
“Howdy, friend! My, it has been
far too long, yes it has!”“Ah…” Henry blinked a few times to get the spots out of his
eyes.Beneath the hair, dressed in a sharp lavender suit with
purple lapels and an American flag-patterned necktie, was a young man who…well,
who it would be difficult to describe without breaking out the term “human
marshmallow”.Henry recognized him instantly.
“Um, hello, Mr. Gleeful,” he replied politely, trying to
rally. The man waved a hand dismissively. “Please, none o’ that, friend, none o’ that!”
he chuckled, chubby cheeks bouncing. He
was looking up at Henry with an honest, genial smile, though Henry thought that
it seemed fixed to his face perhaps a tad
too firmly. “Mister Gleeful is my daddy, you can call me Gideon! Why, we’re practically family after all,
aren’t we?”To that, Henry gave as diplomatic an “Mm,” as he could
manage.
I love your OC Rosa Darling! I’ve only seen a couple of pictures of her, though. Just wondering, what is her aesthetic? Do you have ideas of what she would wear?
Thank you! I made kind of an aesthetic board as a cover for the playlist I made for her, here. Her style is meant to be something of a clash between cutesy retro chic and punk. Think gothabilly, pastel pinup dresses, combat boots, denim vests and jackets covered in patches and buttons and studs, ripped fishnets, red lipstick, and always, always, a tall blonde fauxhawk.
Ally Cat
Lance was always on the fence between cats and dogs. On one hand, cats could be very well-mannered and they were small enough to move anything important out of the way. On the other hand, dogs gave you an excuse to go outside for exercise, were arguably more loyal, could be trained, and could be great conversation starters outside the house. After the week he had, Lance was definitely a dog person.
At First Lance
Lance Neal was the slow, careful, methodical type of person. Whenever he solved a math problem, he went through all the steps, even if they were redundant. When baking, he carefully measured out each ingredient. Sure, it was more time consuming, but he claimed that it guaranteed success in whatever he did. Even if he could find just as much success in shortcuts or more efficient techniques, he refused to do so.
His little sister, Destiny, however, was more likely to make brash decisions, act before thinking, and laugh if it failed. Each mistake was something for her to laugh over and possibly forget about, leading her to make the same mistake again. One mistake that Lance would not let her forget, however, involved her interest in the Twin Souls franchise.
I know there’s a fic in the transdimensional arc that has Alcor trolling Gideon when he accidentally summoned him, but shouldn’t he be careful since that might come back to bite him later on?
On the one hand, caution; on the other, chaos.
Sometimes people do reckless-in-hindsight things because they seem like the most fun at the time, and Alcor does what Alcor does. 🙂
