Plausible Deniability

AN: So basically, I saw this,
and wanted to cheer Toby up a bit.

Toby sat listlessly on the couch, his one good eye staring
blankly at the late-night movie he had cued up, not really taking in any of it.  He chewed mechanically on some popcorn; it really
tasted like nothing to him right now, but he didn’t want to waste it.

Something soft and scaly nuzzled him on his blind side.  Toby looked over and saw Madame Xqsurqrxqfhdeoh,
his Flock babysitter for the evening, on the couch beside him.  Her central stalk eye met his human one,
giving him an almost questioning look, while the other two were fixed on the
popcorn bag.

Wordlessly, Toby offered the bag to her, and she began
happily munching with all three of her mouths, though her stalk eye stayed dutifully
on him.

Toby managed a weak smile, and reached over to run a hand
through her dark wool (she obligingly retracted her spines).  For how alien the Flock often seemed, Toby had
always found it amazing how empathetic they could be.

He was glad that she was here, he really was; but even with
the comfort of her presence, he still couldn’t help feeling miserable.

This day had just been…what was that archaic term Alcor
sometimes used?

Oh, yeah: crappy.

The Days of TAU Christmas

The first dayThe previous dayEventual link to the next day

This day on Ao3

For obvious reasons, a number of these fics is going to be christmas-themed. This one is no exception. Kind of, at least. This is the Circle’s Christmas-equivalent.

Jumanah
felt the butterflies of anticipation fluttering in her stomach as she dressed
up.

Golden
stars in her ears to match the ones speckling her dress and the ones drawn in
the corners of her eyes with glittering lines. Some might say it was a little much,
but this was a special day, and while she had done this many times before, it
would always be just as exciting. It was midwinter.

Most
religions with some presence in places with harsh winters had some sort of
midwinter holiday. This being Christmas, Hanukkah, or Yule, they all had the
same basic function, to light up the dark, and for the Circle of the Dreamers’
Star, it was the Midwinter Welcoming.

sorry yall, but this is my cat blepping. it reminded me of dipper on dipnip. especially with the dopey half opened eyes… anyways, enjoy this picture and i hope you’re reminded of dipper!

Mod S would love pictures of Dipper in this exact pose

Headcannon that Alcor likes to eat catnip when he’s high.

It doesn’t even do anything to him and weirds out everyone to see dipper stuffing fistfuls of what looks like oregano in his mouth

What does yggdrasil look like? In my head it looks like a bushel of mint leaves with rainbow roots and that cause me to think of a sleep-deprived Henry making a dish and accidentally putting yggdrasil in. :/

Ooooh!

We see yggdrasil looking pretty inconspicuous actually. It’s a sad tiny scrub of a plant. It’s low to the ground, with scraggly thin bushes and ratty leaves. It looks like five other common kitchen herbs. Your common hiker or passerby wouldn’t be able to identify it, unless they had some botany background or a plant book on them. It doesn’t even smell when you rub your hands on the leaves.

It shines bright and clear, however, to people who have the Sight.
